No time like the present! The perfect time is anytime; it's great that you are "thinking" about it early. Keep in mind, there's a big difference between thinking and doing. Where thinking allows you to really explore your passion around a particular career and drive you to research and ponder your next move.

By actively doing something about it, you will gain a lot of meaningful information that will help you make a more informed decision when the time comes. That said, it does not mean that the path may end up being different, but it does mean that you'll be making better choices for yourself.
Many times we start on a path that we think we want, but it opens a door to something we didn't expect but one that really captures the essence of who we are.

That said, I encourage you to explore your passion, as a job is not a job if you love it!
Thank you comment icon Thank you so much, this motivates me to start exploring and discovering more! Thank you, I really appreciate it and thank you for your time! Alexa

No matter how old you are, seize the moment NOW. The employment scene is transforming at a rapid pace. Occupations that were prevalent a few years back may no longer exist today, and jobs that don't exist today might become mainstream in the future. It's fantastic to have a passion that can propel you into the professional world. Pursue your interest in skincare. This specific skill set is perfectly suited for your current career stage. However, remember to remain flexible and not overly fixated on a single career path. Your key mission is to master the art of navigating the ever-changing job market. Alongside honing your expertise in skincare, consider engaging in volunteer work where you can cultivate interpersonal or healthcare skills. Maybe you can even complement your skincare abilities with some sales skills. All the diverse skills you start to acquire now will serve as your compass in the vast career landscape.

It's advantageous to begin investigating potential career paths and identifying your interests and strengths in your senior year of high school or the first few years of college. This might assist you in making judgments about your extracurricular and academic pursuits that are in line with your desired professional path.
In the mid of your college students must step into the professional world by doing part time jobs, internships which helps you build a strong base for your future and corporate contacts.

Nicolas’s Answer

A perfect time to narrow it down would be the beginning of ninth grade year when you know the grades and classes are going to really matter. If you think about this freshman year you will then have an opportunity to dive right into a couple of different experiences, and then really make a decision. You should be asking yourself, "How will this help future generations?" And, "Will I be able to sustain all the way until retirement?" There should be opportunity for learning and growth in your decision. When you think about a career, is it going to be something that defines you inside and out? Take all these questions into consideration.

Stephanie’s Answer

The most rewarding careers are those born out of a true passion. Generally, when you're passionate about your work, you naturally excel and gain more skills in that field. I encourage you to immerse yourself in learning about skincare products. Become an expert, devour as much information as you can, form your own opinions about the products, and make it known that this is your area of interest.

Identifying your interest is a crucial first step. Following that, it's important to express your passion openly. We all have a circle of people in our lives - friends, acquaintances, colleagues, and more. Don't hesitate to share your passion with them. If they are aware of your interest and stumble upon a relevant connection or opportunity, they'll likely think of you. This could be your ticket to the career you desire. Also, stay open to opportunities that may not seem like a perfect fit at first. Sometimes, these can lead to truly enriching experiences. Best of luck, you're going to shine!

Jacob’s Answer

It's never too early to start thinking about your future career and planning for it. In fact, the earlier you begin, the more time you have to explore your interests, gain relevant experience, and make informed decisions. Here are some considerations to help you navigate the process:

**1. Explore Your Interests:** If you are interested in skincare and beauty-related careers, take the time to learn more about the industry. Research different roles, job responsibilities, and educational paths. Consider talking to professionals in the field or seeking informational interviews to gain insights.

**2. Educational Pathways:** Look into educational programs or courses related to skincare and beauty. Whether it's formal education, workshops, or certifications, gaining knowledge in your area of interest can be valuable for your future career.

**3. Gain Experience:** Seek opportunities to gain hands-on experience in the field. Volunteering, internships, or part-time jobs in beauty salons, spas, or skincare clinics can provide practical knowledge and give you a feel for the industry.

**4. Networking:** Start building a professional network early on. Attend industry events, connect with professionals on social media platforms like LinkedIn, and join relevant online communities. Networking can open doors to potential career opportunities and valuable advice.

**5. Set Goals and Plan:** Define your career goals and create a roadmap to achieve them. Break down your objectives into smaller, actionable steps. Setting clear goals will help you stay focused and motivated.

**6. Embrace Learning and Growth:** Keep an open mind and be willing to adapt. The beauty and skincare industry may evolve over time, and being open to learning new techniques and technologies will be crucial for success.

**7. Balance with Personal Development:** While planning for your career is important, remember to focus on personal development and well-being too. Maintain a healthy work-life balance and pursue hobbies or interests outside of your career goals.

Remember that career paths can be flexible, and it's okay to explore different options before committing to a specific direction. Early planning and exploration will give you a better understanding of your interests and strengths, ultimately helping you make informed decisions about your future career in the skincare and beauty industry. Don't hesitate to seek guidance from mentors, career counselors, or industry professionals to help you along the way. Embrace the journey and enjoy the process of discovering your passion and potential career path!

It is never too early especially if you found something that you are passionate about! If you are young, you can get a part time job doing something related to the industry you love - for example if you are into skincare and beauty, maybe get a job at sephora or ulta - that gives you experience in the industry and will reaffirm if you really love that industry. Plus it earns you money and looks great on your resume!!!
Thank you comment icon Thank you for your advice! I will consider applying for a job at ulta or sephora. I appreciate your guidance, thank you! Alexa

Ann’s Answer

Any time is a good time. I started thinking about my career in middle school. Think of yourself in a work environment (your dream scenario) and what that looks like to you. For me, I knew I wanted to work in an office to learn administration and operations. And when you get to the point of finding your first job, consider a start-up company. The great thing there is you learn a little about everything from the ground up. They sometimes fail, but the experience is priceless.

Shahara’s Answer

I don't want to say that there is a perfect time to start thinking about what you want to spend the rest of your life doing, I would say if there are opportunities in your middle school or your high school to try different things out to see how much you enjoy doing them then I would say try them. You may like something that you never thought that you would once you actually put time into doing them. If there is one thing that I have learned, never base your decisions off of what others are doing, what is the most popular thing to do or what kind of money you will make. Yes, money is important but, there is always a way to take what you love and make the kind of money that you want to make. Be sure to make yourself happy and not others because in the end you will be the one that has to face the choices you make and they may not make you the happiest that you can be.

Nicolas’s Answer

I would recommend to a family with a child that they know what their child wants to do by the end of elementary school, or in fifth grade. I say this because during this time if there is support and friends involved in the child's life, they can make a decision that will be engrained in their minds throughout high school, and for a long time. With this support that this child has it is likely they are to pick something they love that they are good at, and something that interests or motivates them on another level. If you haven't picked by this age, it's perfectly fine though. Don't forget to pick as soon as you can though, because your development will end when you're twenty-five. Do believe that in the event of pursuing something you love that you will have to work for it and work to climb the ladder. When you think about how you can do something (the amount of time it takes), or when you can do something best (overnights), and where you would most like to work, remember that you should be making a decision based on these things. When you come to the realization that you are striving for something you like make sure to be well informed and believe in yourself because there will always be letdowns and setbacks that you must overcome.

Nicolas recommends the following next steps:

Make a list of five career choices
Research what they are about
Narrow down the choices
Make a choice

Hello Alexa,

When Should You Begin Contemplating Career Choices?

Starting to think about your future career isn't bound by any time constraints, especially if you're already drawn to a specific area such as beauty and skincare. Here are some crucial factors to keep in mind when deciding the ideal time to begin your career planning:

1. Self-Exploration and Identification:
Identifying your interests, strengths, and values early on can guide you towards the career path that would suit you best. If you're already passionate about beauty and skincare, it's a positive sign that you can start exploring potential career opportunities in this field.

2. Learning and Skill Enhancement:
An early start enables you to concentrate on gaining the necessary education and skills for a career in beauty and skincare. You can research relevant courses, qualifications, or even internships that could help you establish a solid base in this industry.

3. Connection Building and Mentorship:
Establishing relationships with professionals in the beauty and skincare industry can offer valuable insights and direction as you chart your career path. Receiving mentorship from seasoned individuals can provide you with tips on how to succeed in this competitive industry.

4. Goal Establishment and Strategizing:
Creating short-term and long-term career-related goals can keep you focused and driven. Strategizing in advance enables you to design a path towards realizing your dreams in the beauty and skincare industry.

5. Adaptability and Open-mindedness:
While having a specific career objective is beneficial, it's equally crucial to be receptive to new opportunities and flexible in your approach. The beauty industry is continually changing, so adaptability can help you flourish in this vibrant setting.

In summary, there's no absolute "ideal" time to start contemplating your career, but an early start can offer you an advantage in pursuing your passion for careers related to beauty and skincare. By investigating your interests, acquiring relevant skills, networking with industry professionals, setting objectives, and maintaining adaptability, you can lay the groundwork for a successful career in this field.

Hi Alexa,

I work with students on career and college readiness and we start preparing students in middle school but I think that is not soon enough! Exploring what you like and don't like to help you find the right career and prepare for it as early as possible is always good. With that being said there is also no reason to put too much pressure on the future. It is great you know you are interested in skincare. I would keep following that interest by watching youtube videos, following skin care influencers, and learning about different skin care careers. I would pay particular interest to science classes if you are interested in skincare. Look into maybe job shadowing someone in a skin care career.

I hope this helps!
Thank you comment icon Yes! Thank you for your advice! I was also thinking of what classes I needed to look forward to and what classes will help me and achieve my goals. Thank you, I really appreciate your time and advice. Alexa
