What made you choose this career field Did you have other career interests? If you were to change your career within this field, is there a variety to choose from??

I'm a senior in highschool from a small town in Arkansas, I'm interested in Psychology and sociology, free-writing, fashion, photography, interior designing, and although I like learning about anything medical, i don't think i would be cut out for a job pertaining to surgery, blood, or anything gore. I love working with people, but I've never been able to disect anything because that has been mentally disturbing for me. I would like to say I'm pretty physically active. I work at Sonic and my school campus is separated by a parking lot so I'm constantly walking back and forth.

Hi Madyson :) I had (and still have) a ton of different interests while deciding on a career. Math, science, agriculture, business, creative writing, coding, and foreign languages were all interests for me.

When I was looking at college specifically, one of my biggest questions was “What do I want to learn that I can’t teach myself?” With that question in mind, I decided that I wanted to get a degree in mechanical engineering. Along the way, I kept exploring my other interests too.

I did get a degree in mechanical engineering, but that’s not actually the field I am in now. Partway through college I added a computer science minor, and that allowed me to get a software engineering job after graduating. It’s not where I thought I’d end up, but I love it! Where you start doesn’t have to be were you end up. And you can continue enjoying all your other interests too, even if they’re not part of a long-term job.

Hello Madison,

If you're considering Medical School, it's highly likely that you'll need a fundamental understanding of Biology and Anatomy (disections to do maybe).

However, you're not strictly limited to these subjects. There are related fields that you might find equally engaging, and it's clear you're doing well in identifying your strengths, interests, and potential career paths.

Consider exploring your options both online and at local institutions. You might find that Psychology or Education could be a good fit for you.

Don't forget about your artistic talents. You've mentioned several, and they're important. Perhaps over time, you could find a way to integrate them into your main career or continue to enjoy them as hobbies. This way, you won't feel pressured to abandon one passion for the sake of another.

I hope my advice is clear and helpful. Please feel free to ask for further clarification or expansion on any of the ideas I've shared.

If you have more questions about pursuing the arts, I'd be happy to delve deeper into that topic because is my main professional field.

Best wishes,

Leo :)

It's wonderful that you have such a wide range of interests and talents! Choosing a career path can be a meaningful journey. When it comes to Psychology and Sociology, they are excellent choices if you enjoy working with people and have an interest in understanding human behavior. These fields offer various career opportunities, including counseling, social work, research, or even teaching.

Your passion for free-writing, fashion, photography, and interior designing opens up creative avenues as well. You could explore careers in writing, fashion design, photography, or interior decorating. These fields allow you to express your creativity and work with aesthetics.

Your fascination with medical topics doesn't have to lead to surgery or gore-related roles. You could explore careers in healthcare administration, medical research, or healthcare education, which involve working with medical concepts without direct patient care.

Given your physical activity and experience at Sonic, you might consider careers in hospitality management or event planning, which involve interaction with people and organizational skills.

Remember, your career path doesn't have to be linear. You can blend your interests and skills to create a unique career that truly reflects your passions. The key is to explore your options through internships, courses, and networking to discover what truly resonates with you. Don't be afraid to change direction within your chosen field; flexibility is often the key to a fulfilling career.

Thank you for your question. I am glad to hear that you have a wide range of interest. However, you may list to identify 1-2 careers you have interest and prepare for your high school application.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Identify the careers related to your interest
e.g. Have you have about to be a fashion designer, run your own boutique, make up artist, fashion photographer, fashion journalist, phycologist, interior designer, etc.
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counsellor, your parents, etc.
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue. The relevant subjects will be the major and minor you will be targeting
5. Explore the college reviews on these subjects and find out the entry criteria
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
