Hello, Terrell !

You have asked a question which shows that you really care about your future and working up to your full potential !

Getting into a college that has a great screenwriting major course of study is important. If you plan to relocate, I would advise that in L.A., the American Film Institute would be the best. If you plan to stay in New York, the ones that are the best are NYU (New York University), The Julliard School, The New School, CUNY Hunter College and SUNY at Purchase College.

Do keep in mind that you are already someone special now and it doesn't start when you are older or in a career. Hold on to all of the things that make you special now.

On the issues of "making" any person love your work and becoming "successful", I would say that it would depend on how you personally define those. Are you forming the meaning from your own ideas or are you being influenced by superficial imagery of fame and fortune ? Think about what you as a person consider to be success as it is different for everyone. Do you want to make your sole income from Screenwriting or do you want to be a billionaire for the sake of being rich and famous ? Examine these plans and take it a step at a time. No one can predict your future and most of the entertainment industry is being in the right place at the right time and knowing the right people.

Now for some further advice: not everyone is going to like or love your work and that doesn't mean the creation is not good, it's just that the entertainment industry is an opinion industry so you can't expect everyone to accept, like, love or want your work. But there will be people who will like your work and it's up to you to make these contacts through your college experience, the union or any agencies that assist screenwriters. You will constantly have to be aware of the structure of screenwriting, human behavior, comedy, drama, all genres, how to do research and the writers' market. Where, how and to whom to pitch or submit your scripts is vital and you will become more familiar with this as you proceed and college will be extremely helpful with this. The goal is not to charm everyone. It's better to approach each script confident of the message you want to convey and know that that message is very important.

Know that you are important right now, get into a great college, use your creativity to tell a story, start out small and enjoy every project your scripts are accepted for. Screenwriting is very competitive but never give up.

I hope this helps a little and I wish you all the best going forward !

Hello Terrell,

Firstly, let me commend you on your desire to join the incredible universe of creativity. The power of the mind is boundless when it comes to crafting stunning art, and by art, I'm referring to the magic of using words to breathe life into a new world, a sonnet, a play, a melody, or even something as simple yet profound as a cliche.

You are already a creator, so there's no need to wait to produce content that you can showcase at literature expos. This will undoubtedly pave the way for connections with other creative minds in the literary world. For added inspiration, consider visiting the library or searching online for opportunities to hear screenwriters discuss their craft.

Don't fret over whether others will "fall in love with your work." It's crucial to have faith in your talent. Remember Lin Manuel Miranda's humble beginning with a small skit of Hamilton performed in front of the President of the United States? Initially, it was met with a smile, but in a few years, that modest skit evolved into the most celebrated play worldwide.

However, bear in mind that Rome wasn't built in a day. Maintaining a positive attitude and staying focused on your journey is key. Take a leaf out of a racehorse's book - they wear blinders in the Kentucky Derby to keep their focus on their path and the finish line, not on the distractions around them.
