Hi Morgan -
There are couple of jobs you can start exploring when we think about the mix of art and engineering.
They seems to be far part, but more than we realized there's career path where both ability are needed.
1. UX Designer - This is more related to front end, but designing and implementing system or web feature where users can easily or intuitively use
2. Graphic Designer - More than we think, many visulas that we see on Ads, internet, movie, game are created by Graphic designer. It could be vary from conceptual design to realistic photos.
3. Media Artist - If you want to pursue more artistic career, you may want to explore Media art. Media artists use technology like projection, 3d printing, interactive art, etc to express artistic view.
Hope you find the right fit for your career path!

Joan’s Answer

Hello Morgan!

It's fantastic to see your enthusiasm for the dynamic world of Software Engineering. This field is the backbone of many sectors, including gaming, and is responsible for creating a variety of applications, ranging from shopping and dating apps to productivity tools like Microsoft Teams and Excel.

Once you've mastered the art of coding, the possibilities are endless. You'll be able to develop applications for practically any process that can be automated. Collaborating with innovative graphic designers, you'll have a say in how a specific feature or application will appear and interact with the user. The satisfaction of seeing your code spring to life, solving a user's problem, is incredibly fulfilling.

Have you considered learning to code? There's a wealth of STEM Programs available to you while you're still in high school. I recommend speaking with an Academic Advisor at your school who can guide you towards local resources to help you learn to code, often at no cost. Additionally, there's a fantastic organization called Girls Who Code (https://girlswhocode.com) that offers access to over 8,500 programs in the US, designed to assist girls just like you.

I hope you find this information useful. Best of luck on your thrilling journey!

DANIEL’s Answer

Hi Morgen,

The job that is most likely to fit you will be based on your interests and personality. A good way to determine what one will be best for you or even what your interests are would be to do a personality test. 16personalities.com is a great example of this. It will give you career paths that would work well with your personality type as well as giving you a detailed understanding of your personality type.

Thanks,
Daniel and Caitlin.

Kelsey’s Answer

Morgan,

As an artist it is often easy to find yourself being multifaceted in your skills and interests. Sometimes it may feel like you are being pulled in different directions, that may leave you feeling unsure of what road to take. But the best jobs are the one that offer your skills to build on each other. With being an artist who is interested in software engineering I highly recommend User Interface design. This is a field growing with opportunity that can be done in person or online with schooling options as short as 10 weeks. UCI has a 24 week program that is all online offering you to learn from the comforts of your creative space. This program covers UI design skills as well as UX which is User Experience. UX helps a team understand who and why you are designing, where UI is how and what to design. This program not only offers training on front end positions (UI/UX) but also the back end as a developer where you would get familiarized with coding. UCI has great connections with well known successful companies including Blizzard, which may be a fun way to bring in more creativity into your field.

Best of luck to you!
