Choosing a major can indeed be a challenging task. However, it's perfectly okay to change your mind along the way. Start by exploring what you truly enjoy doing and see if there's a potential career path in it. Remember, it's completely normal for your interests to evolve over time. Investigate your passion, check out the job market demand, average salary, work-life balance, and job responsibilities in your state. This will give you a solid understanding of the potential career. Stay positive and remember, you're on a journey to discover a career that will bring you joy and satisfaction.

Ryan’s Answer

Justice, Your question is not unusual for most seeking education and an employment path they will enjoy. How old are you? Are you currently in high school? The key to finding a path of success and happiness is to pay attention to the things you enjoy doing, whether in school or away from school. Most often people find their interests in the things they enjoy doing recreationally or with friends; sometimes the hint of your interests is think about what you enjoy thinking about! Sometimes your thoughts become the path to your future! It might help to talk about what you like or the things you find interesting with friends you trust and adults your trust, like family, friends, and/or teachers. Take your time to think, read, and explore with others. You eventually will try things you thought you would like and find later you don’t care for them; that’s good. It is just as importantant to know the things that don’t fit your talents and interests as those that do. Learning and discovery of your interests and talents is a journey, not a one time event. Enjoy it and have fun along the way!

Hi Justice,
Choosing a major is a big decision, my advice would be to try to balance your interests, skills and future career opportunities. Look at the list of majors your college offers and see what the classes are required for that major, for example if you are good in math and science look for STEM majors. In my experience, you do good in a class when you are interested, engaged and are willing to put in the hard work. Try to think about the career fields you could go in with your major, if you are interested in many different fields you can always do a double major, a minor, change majors or take electives on specific topics. Talking to people who are in the major you are interested in can help you gain insights into it as it varies between schools. Best of luck!

Thank you for your question. Many students have similar question. Firstly, you have to find out what careers you have interest. You can then focus on the relevant subjects to be your major and minor.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Think about what you have interest, e.g. your hobbies, favourite subjects, etc. and identify related careers
E.g. If you like music, would you like to be a musician, musical artist, singer, music composer, music producer, etc.
If you have interest in maths, would you like to be an engineer, accountant, banker, financial analyst, maths teacher, etc.
2. Find out more on these subjects and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counsellor, your parents, etc.
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue. The relevant subjects will be the major and minor you can focus
5. Explore the entry criteria of these subjects in colleges
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
May Almighty God bless you!

Connor’s Answer

Hello there, friend from Sacramento,

Choosing a major was a strategic decision for me, aimed at securing a specific type of job, something I knew I would excel at and comprehend well. In my case, it was accounting. My decision to specialize in accounting was influenced by my performance in the introductory classes—I found that everything clicked and felt intuitive. An added advantage was that the program I enrolled in ranks among the top three in the country. Given its esteemed reputation, I believed it would pave the way to the job I aspired to land.

In my opinion, the key to choosing the right major is finding something that fits you in these ways: it's a subject you already grasp and are passionate about, acquiring skills in this area will enhance your career prospects, and the career you desire can be achieved through this major. One of the greatest aspects of college is that it's your chance to figure out your path—what you want to do and how to reach that goal. Remember, the final decision is yours and yours alone.

One effective strategy is to explore various career paths that pique your interest and identify majors that align with them. This can be done by engaging in conversations with professionals in those fields or students who are currently pursuing those majors.

Best of luck!

Julien’s Answer

Hello Justice,

Deciding on a career path can indeed be a daunting task, but remember, exploration is key during your school years. In your initial two years, feel free to select a variety of courses even if you're still undecided about your major. This will provide you with a broad range of knowledge and experiences.

Joining clubs is another excellent way to connect with like-minded individuals and discover interests that could align with your future goals. This not only gives you a chance to explore but also grants you ample time to identify your potential major.

Don't hesitate to seek advice from your school's counselors and professors. Their insights, drawn from real-world experiences, can guide you towards what works best for you.

Wishing you the best on this exciting journey!
