My son, when he was applying to colleges, was accepted at university of Miami and the UCLA. Both 40,000 a year.

It was only after speaking to my dear friend, that I realized that was way out of our realm, financially speaking.

He went to SUNY Purchase near our home in NYC. So much cheaper. He went I’m to become a a scholar/athlete. And actually won an award for being so.

I doubt he would’ve had so much success had he gone to a much larger school. And he saved a lot of money. No student debt. Which is important going forward.

I’d suggest that you factor this in your decision making.

Hi Owen! When I was in highschool, thinking about what college to attend, I also compared the UC and CSU systems. If you're thinking about stress or difficulty level, I'd say they're fairly similar. But, I think the main difference between the two is the semester and quarter system. With the exception of UC Berkeley and Merced, all other UC's use a 10-week quarter system where you can take fewer classes but the material is covered faster. Meaning all midterms, homework assignments, and finals are to be completed within 10 weeks. I've experienced both a semester system and quarter system and would say a quarter system is more challenging given the shorter timeframe. However, it is doable if you're able to manage time very well. In addition, the level of stress also depends on your major, extracurriculars, and jobs. There are some helpful sites that compare the UC and CSU system such as https://blog.prepscholar.com/uc-vs-csu-whats-the-difference.
