Knowing a second or third language is helpful in a lot of businesses. Even being a teacher. You can potentially earn more money if you are bilingual. If you want to be a manager or Chef you need to train people who work for you. If they speak Spanish you need to communicate with them. If you customers are mostly Latino, you will need to speak Spanish. If you go to a Latin country to work or study you will need to learn Spanish. It all depends on what you want to do in your career. It will not hurt to learn as much as you can.

While I'm not certain if culinary school necessitates it, having a grasp of Spanish has significantly boosted my career. I don't think that mastering Spanish is a compulsory requirement for culinary school. However, it's definitely beneficial and can open up new opportunities.

Hi Sophie,
It is not necessarily required although it could be helpful. Throughout your culinary career you will work with people from all over the world. I have personally worked with great people from Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Italy, Mexico, Japan, China, Brazil and more. Cooking is universal even if there may be a language barrier at first but eventually it all works out and you will learn from others as they will from you!

Hey Sophie,
That's a fantastic question you've asked! In case you're considering joining a culinary school in the US, the lectures will be conducted in English, so knowing another language isn't a must. But, having a grip on a foreign language is always a bonus. Spanish, for instance, is the second most common language in the USA. It's widely spoken, particularly in the bustling restaurant industry. So, even though it might not be crucial for your academic journey, it will undoubtedly give you an edge when you step into the professional world.
Keep up the good work with your studies, and best of luck!
