Remember that AI can only do so much: you as an artist have the capability of breaking past the walls of AI and pushing the envelope. This is something that has become increasingly relevant in the past few years, but I believe that it is possible to have a successful career in art and design despite the obvious challenges that have arisen due to the amount of art that is created artificially. Even though AI is amazing and it can be incredible how much it helps us think creatively, you could use it to your advantage; you could use AI to peruse through different ideas or come up with a mood board or vision board. AI can only do so much: it can never replicate or replace a true artist.

As an artist and interior designer for many years I have learned the world is forever evolving and producing exciting new avenues for the artist to exercise there creative energy. Hello Pearl! If you're looking forward to have a job as a character designer I just wanted to warn you that those kinds of careers are very competitive, a lot of people want to work in character design or character animation. I don't want to discourage you, just to help you be prepared for when you start applying to jobs. One thing you can do, like Rafael said, is expand your skill set, careers are a curious thing, you could start doing one thing and in a couple years do something entirely different. Don't lose your focus on character design of that's what you love, but try developing skills for other opportunities that may be linked to that focus if you can, like rigging or modeling, nowadays there's a lot of employers asking for 3D related skills, especially in the gaming and animation industries.

And about AI, I know there's a lot of people in the art community that hate AI, the main belief is that its taking their jobs and stealing their styles. However I dont believe AI is a bad thing, I've seen people on Linkedin use it in their work process and not in the the stereotypical 'type some words and the software will immediately generate your work", they used different softwares in the process to eventually put all the pieces together for their work.

In conclusion, learn about these new softwares that artists in your field are using and always consider other options for work as it will give you more opportunities to break in the industry.
