Character design principles: Understand how characters convey personality, emotions, and story through their visual design elements like clothing, body language, and facial features.
Storytelling: Characters are a crucial part of storytelling. Learn how to build characters that resonate with viewers and support the overall narrative.
Portfolio development: Create a strong portfolio showcasing your character design skills in different styles and genres.
Embrace AI as a Tool:
Learn AI character generators: Explore platforms like Artbreeder, Midjourney, or Character.AI. Understand their capabilities and limitations.
Use AI for inspiration: Generate character variations with AI and use the results as a springboard for further development.
Refine AI-generated designs: Don't settle for purely AI-created characters. Use your drawing skills to polish and personalize the designs, adding details and refining expressions.
Develop Complementary Skills:
3D modeling and animation: While AI can create basic models, understanding 3D allows you to create more intricate characters for animation or interactive projects.
User experience (UX) design: Learn how to design characters for user interaction in games, apps, or virtual worlds.
Coding: Basic coding skills can give you an edge in creating interactive characters or working with AI tools.
Storyboarding and visual narrative: Visualize character actions and interactions within the story context.
Stay Ahead of the Curve:
Follow industry trends: Stay updated on advancements in AI for character design.
Network with other character designers: Share experiences and learn from peers who are also adapting to the changing landscape.
The key is to develop a unique artistic voice that AI can't replicate. Your ability to translate concepts into compelling characters, understand storytelling, and adapt to new technology will be invaluable. Remember, AI is a powerful tool, but it's human creativity that breathes life into characters.

And about AI, I know there's a lot of people in the art community that hate AI, the main belief is that its taking their jobs and stealing their styles. However I dont believe AI is a bad thing, I've seen people on Linkedin use it in their work process and not in the the stereotypical 'type some words and the software will immediately generate your work", they used different softwares in the process to eventually put all the pieces together for their work.
In conclusion, learn about these new softwares that artists in your field are using and always consider other options for work as it will give you more opportunities to break in the industry.
