What else should I do?

I've been looking forever trying to find a job, but I don't get anywhere, which is causing me to get annoyed. What do I do?

Hi Kayla!

Many people struggle with this. The job market is competitive as ever.

I like using linked in to find openings. You can set alerts with filters such as job, location, salary, etc. Also, linked in lets you make connections with recruiters, people you know and lets you access skills through linked in learning. I recommend following wonsulting.
While you apply, try asking recruiters for feedback. Use the feedback and work on the weak spots to make you a stronger candidate.

Brush up on your skills in between interviews and applying, build new ones as a question that’s commonly asked is-what did you do during your employment gap?

I completely understand your situation, as I was in your shoes not too long ago. Despite having a recruiter to guide me and polish my resume, and despite sending out over 100 applications, I didn't receive a single call. It was quite disheartening, especially since I was applying for roles I was more than qualified for. But remember, the job market is challenging for everyone, even those with extensive experience. You're not alone in this!

Here are some strategies that played a crucial role in my success:

1. Make use of a free LinkedIn premium account (you can opt in for a free 30 day trial in most cases)- it can make a significant difference.
2. Don't hesitate to contact hiring managers or recruiters who have listed job openings. Even if you face rejection, engage them with insightful questions that show your interest in the role or your desire to improve for future applications. When I was rejected, I would express my keen interest in their industry and ask for advice on how to stand out among other candidates.
3. Follow potential employers on LinkedIn and stay informed about the latest industry trends. Responding thoughtfully and strategically to posts from recruiters and hiring managers can set you apart from the crowd.
4. Reach out to your network - friends, family, or acquaintances who work in your target industry. They might be able to help get your resume in front of the right people or provide valuable advice based on their own experiences.
5. Don't discount the value of entry-level roles or jobs that might not tick every box on your list. Everyone has to start somewhere, and with hard work and dedication, you'll find yourself climbing the ladder or landing the job you've always wanted. Remember, every opportunity is a chance to showcase your abilities.

  The first thing you need to do is decide on the job search method and what kind of job you want.  Naturally, the requirements must be realistic and relevant to your experience and skills.
Searching for work on the Internet
With the rapid development of information technology, this method is more relevant than ever.  There are many resources appearing on the Internet that allow applicants to publish their resumes and companies to review and search for specialists.  The advantage of specialized sites as a method of job search is interactivity and mobility.  You will always have at hand a list of companies that have reviewed your resume, you can also view open vacancies and respond to the one that is most suitable for you
Expand your search channels
We love our site very much, and its effectiveness is impressive.  But you still don’t need to stop at just one option.  Be sure to ask your acquaintances, friends and relatives if there are any vacancies at their enterprises.
   Remember who you crossed paths with at work, who you once helped with deeds or advice.  Reach out to these people.  Perhaps they have an offer for you.
Direct contact to the employer
This type of employment has a high chance of success, since you individually show interest in the company.  The best option would be to come to the office yourself and hand over your resume to the HR department.  It is possible that you will even be able to cross paths and communicate with your future boss or manager.  This will undoubtedly set you apart from the rest of the crowd of applicants.
As soon as you put a cross on yourself, it will be put on you and all potential employers.  You must believe in yourself and in your success, and under no circumstances give up your search. Remember - only forward and only upward, and everything will definitely work out!🌠

Hi Kayla,

There are a couple of things you can do:

1. Make sure you have a great resume. If you are in high school ask your guidance counselor to help you with a resume. If you are in college ask your campus career services for help with a resume.

2. Use websites like LinkedIn and Indeed to search for jobs.

3. Network- talk to people who can help you find a job. Go to networking events or career fairs where you can talk with companies about opportunities.

4. Don't give up! Sometimes it is just a timing game and you have to keep trying until the right time comes along for that opportunity.

Looking for a job today is very difficult. Couple of ideas:

If you are part of an alumni association, connect and see if they can help.

Get out and network. 2 of my jobs have been a result of who I knew as opposed to applying.

Search Eventbrite for job fairs. This can be good practice when it comes to interviewing and explaining who you are.
