Hello, Jalen !

It is great to know that you are in Job Corps and have an interest in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. It is a very much needed service and I would imagine that you could get a lot of work in Sacramento, especially during the triple digit temperatures during the summer. There is no list of states that pay the most for HVAC professionals, but let's look into this to get a perspective that would be helpful for you.

As a professional HVAC technician, you will do freelance jobs and/or work for a company that sends you out, so it's impossible to say which state pays the highest. There's no way to tell. You can feel confident that you will do well in California, however. The pay varies and depends on if it is a residential home, apartment complex, a repair or new construction, a commercial building, a mobile home, a State or City Building and to what extent the job entails. So there's no way to determine what your income would be at any given time, but my advice is that California may be a good bet.

There is some good news for you. You can attend Sacramento City College and receive an Associates Degree in HVAC ! This is some strong advice I would give to you because while attending there, you will learn so much and meet so many people that will support your future career. There is much to learn and although Job Corps is excellent, at City College you will get the needed guidance for your career and supportive services on campus for your future. To do this will foster skills, confidence, awareness of the field and rich social and professional contacts. It is a two year study and financial aid is available if you qualify.

You will learn about the pay scale for HVAC while attending college. If you work freelance, you set the fee and if you work for a company, they will let you know your salary during a job interview. I wouldn't worry about the money. It usually pays very well no matter what state you're in. It will be to your advantage to obtain some HVAC certifications. Do a search online for "HVAC Certifications" and when you are ready, take as many as you are interested in. It will boost your education as well as your marketability.

So, in review, you have nothing to worry about. You're in a good state and a good city for a prospective HVAC career. Focus on education, training and certifications and it will take you far !

I would guess anywhere hot would be a great choice for jobs in the HVAC industry, but my biggest piece of advice would be find the company that you would want to work for in the industry and go there (especially if you don't care what state you are in). Good luck!
