Is it too late for me to start an internship as a rising senior?

Will colleges find an internship during my senior year appealing? Should I avoid an internship and stick to maintaining good grades and my sports performance?

Shirley’s Answer

Hi Mayla,

I don't believe it is ever too late to do an internship. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. If you have an internship offer and your schedule can accommodate the commitment, definitely do an internship because it offers great work experience.

Nancy’s Answer

Hello,

Remember, it's always the right time to kickstart an internship. Each experience you gain serves as a valuable talking point during interviews. If it's feasible for you, consider accepting unpaid roles, but don't hesitate to inquire about potential stipends. Endeavor to discover opportunities to volunteer or intern that won't interfere with your sports activities. Maintaining your involvement in sports can enrich your overall experience, so keep it up if you can!

Best of luck!

Hi Mayla
No, not at all. It is never a bad idea to start an internship, be it your first year or last year of your education.
You can always add that internship to your resume and it add to your total work experience.
Moreover, doing various internships in multiple fields can help you decide what you want to do eventually with your professional life.
Go ahead, all the best.

Martha’s Answer

Hi Mayla, I agree with Shirley and Ishaan that an internship could offer valuable experience, even taking college applications out of the equation.

But I would add the following considerations, that it:
- fit in with your college or career plans in a way you could explain
- not detract from your academic or sports performance
- not jeopardize your health through stress or loss of sleep

Good luck!
