Hi There Layla!
As someone who graduated with a BFA in Design, hopefully I can shed some insight as to why I chose to major in design specifically.
For me, I've always been a very creative person and was more focused on traditional studio arts. However, I knew that becoming a studio artist or just getting to draw and paint for a career wasn't very practical.
During my early college years, I took a few courses to explore other ways to have a lucrative career while also getting to utilize my creativity. I ended up taking Design Software Processing (essentially Graphic Design 101) and immediately fell in love. It was challenging to translate my skills from paper into InDesign or Illustrator, but it opened my eyes to a whole new way to create and visually communicate with others.
That class led me to becoming a design major and boy am I glad I did! My degree gave me a very realistic breakdown of not only what I needed to know technically to be a designer, but also how to network, build a portfolio, and navigate the overall broad spectrum that is Graphic Design.
In reality, you don't need a degree to become a designer. However having a place to learn, fail, grow, and talk with people with successful careers was a huge step for me and many others. Everyone is different, especially in the design world. There are people who come from a more artistic background, and there are others who come from a business background, or coding, or a plethora of other aspects.
All in all, having that time to learn the nitty gritty details of design from professionals can give young creatives the tools they need to be successful professionals themselves. Hope this helps!

I majored in graphic design there are benefits in doing it. The good and bad is that you see how things are made since you are on the production side. That might take the fun away from things and how you view the world. Graphic design is on clothes, movies, tv and just everywhere. If you do it be prepared to take breaks and shut the mind down from it all.

Graphic Design is a great major if you're interested in pursuing a career in any sort of digital design or creative field. However, it can be somewhat limiting to those career fields. If you're interested in a career beyond a design role, I recommend also studying something like marketing.
