Hi M!
I'd be happy to share a bit about my career journey with you. I currently work in E&S Property Insurance (aka clients are higher risk meaning they are in a location where claims tend to occur i.e. hurricanes, earthquakes, tornados). I started out as an associate broker, which involved working closely with insurance agents and carriers (underwriters) to negotiate terms and coverages. Recently, I transitioned into underwriting, where I focus more on assessing risk, evaluating insurance applications, and determining policy terms and pricing. While both roles are within the insurance industry, underwriting has given me the chance to develop a deeper understanding of risk assessment and decision-making, which I find very rewarding.
I majored in Public Relations in college, which might seem like an unusual path to insurance, but I've found that the skills I learned—like communication, relationship building, and strategic thinking—are incredibly valuable in my current role. I love what I'm doing now, and I'm happy I made this career shift. The salary is quite competitive, and one of the best parts about my job is the great work-life balance it offers.
If you have any more questions or want to know more about working in insurance, feel free to ask!
Best,
Aubree
If you're unsure of what you would like to do, email someone who does your dream job to ask for “an informational interview”.

When I got to college at Villanova University, I couldn’t find a degree that suited me. So, I went to the chairman of the theater department and the chairman of the education department. I asked them to talk to each other and make me a degree. I graduated with a degree in theater communications education. And I am an actor and a teacher.
Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. You just might get it and if you don’t ask, you definitely won’t. Be bold.
I’ve been fortunate to make a very good living in both fields. And, I got myself a financial advisor. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Over the years he has turned my portfolio into something that will support me for the rest of my life.
I wish you all the best!

Started off working in a kitchen but knew I wanted to help people. I earned my associates degree and letters, arts and sciences (general studies) I went onto earn bachelors degree and psychology and philosophy (double major). I eventually went on my masters in business administration. My first real job was as a sales manager and I was able to work my way up to be a Vice President for two companies before the age of 40.
A lot of my job is just talking with people and convincing them to buy the product or service I am offering. Since the product have sold have been high-quality, I really do feel like I’m helping people which lets me feel like I have come full circle.

Hey M!
I'm at the budding stage of my career, and I'm hopeful that my journey can provide you with some guidance as you navigate your own professional path. I hail from Brazil and have spent most of my career here.
I initially earned a technical degree in software development, but I quickly realized that programming wasn't my cup of tea. However, this degree opened the door for me to intern at a tech company while I was majoring in Engineering. Eventually, I landed a full-time role in the Program Management Team, ensuring the smooth operation of a specific company service. It was a blast!
My technical expertise paved the way for my promotion to Account Manager, where I provided support to customers. This role was equally exciting, and it helped me discover my knack for people skills, which is one of my greatest strengths.
During my tenure as an Account Manager, I was given the chance to participate in a Trainee program in the US for a Hospitality company. I seized this opportunity, which allowed me to live abroad for a year, honing my commercial skills and improving my English, as Portuguese is my first language.
After a year abroad, I returned to Brazil and found the perfect role for me - an Account Executive in one of the largest travel-tech companies. Working in the commercial sector has its perks, including excellent pay and potential bonuses or commissions for achievements. However, it can also be demanding as you interact with a diverse range of people and face high expectations for your performance. Despite these challenges, I would still highly recommend it!
My biggest piece of advice is to put yourself out there. Once you dive in, you'll start to understand what you enjoy and what you don't, and this will guide your professional growth. So go ahead, take the plunge, and watch your career flourish!
