What are the average salaries in cybersecurity?

National average and State of Michigan Average

Thank you comment icon The great thing about cybersecurity is that this profession is in very high demand. There are more cybersecurity jobs available than there are trained people to fill those jobs. Most companies place a huge value on protecting their systems, data, etc... and on their cybersecurity teams who are charged with doing that. While salaries will vary by company, cyber jobs generally pay very well. Many companies plae cybersecurity in their "hot jobs" category, understanding that they need to pay higher for these roles. You are also have more leverage to negotiate your pay package in this area since the demand is so high. Keep in mind that with the higher demand and higher pay comes more responsibility and pressure as the stakes are high for companies to protect their information, systems and data. Brendon Perkins

The average salary for cybersecurity professionals in the United States varies by state. As of 2024, the national average salary for cybersecurity roles is approximately $133k per year, which translates to about $11k per month

In Michigan, the average annual salary for cybersecurity professionals is slightly lower than the national average, at around $115k per year. This equates to about $9.5k per month.

Like others said, this varies drastically depending on the role. An entry level SOC analyst may make $40k-$80k annually, whereas a senior may make $100k-$180k+. These can also be increased depending on if you have specialty skills/knowledge such as reverse engineering, cloud, architecture, etc, where salaries will start getting into the $200k+ range.

Regardless of your role, this is a GREAT field to get into with a lot of open roles, growth opportunity, and there's always something new to learn. I don't know any other field where you can break six-figures in a year without any certs or college degrees (rare but it happens!)

Good luck to you!

This is hard to answer, it depends on your job role within the cybersecurity industry - data scientist (very lucrative), IT Architect, program manager, SOC analyst, etc all have different salary ranges, which you can find online, and can all be connected to the industry.
