Did you ever feel obligated to chose a STEM career over a creative one?

I am in the process of choosing my career and major for college, but I am unsure if a stem career is really worth it.

Hi Serena,

I understand you're exploring a career path and are torn between creative fields and the opportunities within STEM. I'd love to hear more about the specific creative activities that captivate you. It's worth noting that creativity is a vital component of STEM as well. Beyond the typical associations with coding or troubleshooting, STEM encompasses designing intuitive user interfaces and developing groundbreaking technologies, tools, machines, or robots that can significantly enhance communities. This fusion of creativity and technical expertise can lead to rewarding and impactful careers.

As you navigate your options, consider the pros and cons of each path and, most importantly, reflect on what truly matters to you. Think about your personal values and which path aligns best with them.

Personally yes I've felt pressure to choose either or
I was pressured into petroleum which I ultimately did not go into
The reason I was a good fit was my project manager STEM mindset

I've ultilized my learning into many jobs in the creative field that actual where just standard define measure analyze science jobs- new Orleans cuisine industry is a good example

I've also applied STEM training and schooling to help build ramps at my local skatepark.

Honestly you'll have to use your best judgement of how to define what's valuable to yourself.

But honestly having a stem background for jobs is pretty valuable.

Especially in industries like food, art, finance and teaching.
You can find creative uses for it
Like a smoked food scientist

Best of luck to you
Rob from New Orleans
