I am not qualified chef but I'm a food technologist who was interested in cooking. Many industries can be too generous to consider you without any prior experience where they might just check if you can learn and have skills. If you do, they might not mind your grades. Some hotels might need a certain certifications but low grades or no exemplary performance won't stop you from reaching anywhere. Just keep trying your best and you'll reach there.

The standards in culinary programs are high, and hands-on training can be a blessing majority of times , mainly for you to survive in culinary industry - commitment in order to practice , determination and perfect cooking techniques are a must . In my honest opinion i would recommend you to enroll in a culinary institute to understand "The Culinary Arts" in a broader view.

If you apply yourself, you can be anything you want. granted there are culinary colleges who require a certain grade level. However, there are also ways around it. If you really have the passion, you should find a Michelin star chef and explain to them your situation. Or someone who is reputable within their trade. so, in other words don't work at McDonalds expecting to be a chef.
If you can get to work with a reputable chef, you may start at peeling potatoes, or making breakfast or even doing the dishes, whatever you do within this realm of working for a reputable chef, watch when you can, learn when you can since it will only make you stronger. Get cookbooks from chefs such as Stephanie Izard, Cat Cora, Jacques Pepin to name a few. You can use the internet or if you have a kindle membership which is like 10.00 a month. Do anything that will increase your knowledge. You can also get a book about culinary science which will help you understand why different food products cook the way they do.
Above all, enjoy yourself, take things in stride, and learn what you can and when you can.

Anyone can get into the culinary arts! Some of the most world renowned chefs didn't do well in your typical schools then did extremely well in culinary school & went on to very successful careers!

I starter in culinary arts when I was in the 9th grade. Now I’m a millionaire. Not much to it if you have a good work ethic and willingness to learn outside of your traditional classroom. And in some schools you can even receive credits for working/Volunteering out of school.
