David’s Answer

Hi Juan, if you are looking for a job that pays a lot of money you may want to ask yourself is this the best option? If you love what you do and are passionate about it the money will come. Find something that you would be willing to do for free, for instance you were struggling to find a job and you volunteered in a place until a position opened up. Which actually happened to me, I was dead broke, could barely afford the gas to get to work, but I donated my time just so that chef would see that I was serious. It was my passion, work ethic and drive to put me on top if the pyramid. Before that I barely made minimum wage, my hours would be cut after I worked them, it was tough, but I knew it was part of the journey. Most cooks I know that just want to be cooks and not get promoted usually work two jobs. And as you get promoted and rise up you get paid more, but then it's like working two jobs. If you are looking for money work in a hotel, if you are looking for prestige work in a 2 or 3 Michelin Star Restaurant. After my time in some fine dining restaurants and trailing in kitchens I was better suited to ask for more money. Good luck sir and I hope that money is not your main reason for an interest in cooking.
Thank you comment icon I appreciate this, thank you for the advice. Juan
