What is it like to be a full time barista?
Working in a small café making drinks and pastries all day is very enticing to me, but I have no idea what that entails.

Hey Ani,
Typically you can expect it to be very fast paced with mixed shifts/hours and of course customer facing!
Keep in mind the different types of people that will walk through the doors, some GREAT, some maybe not so great so flexibility will be key, good interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure!
In return, I hope you will get a discount on their coffee and pastries!

Agreed! Another thing to note is that in addition to making coffee and pastries comes administrative tasks, like inventory counts, opening and closing registers, etc.

Another thing to think about is standing for 8+ hours.

Hello Ani!
I was a barista at a Starbucks Kiosk for 3 years. It was singlehandedly the most rewarding, as well as the most vigorous, job I've ever had! Oftentimes, being a full time barista will have you spinning around in circles, sometimes working for 4 hours alone or running into other baristas trying to get orders out or just cleaning up after a rush. Hopefully your experience will not sound as busy as mine was!
I had the opportunities to grow and become Barista Trainer Certified as well as taking the classes and training to complete a management level certification to be a manager at a different kiosk. You will have to make sure you put in your product orders (merchandise, if applicable, and/or ingredient needs) in on time, otherwise you will run into problems of not having something on hand when a customer wants something specific.
One thing I will add that made everything about being a highly seasoned barista, was my relationships with my customers and coworkers. It was so special that regulars came in most days and we would share how our day's were, it seems so special to me now no longer being one. It's amazing the kinds of relationships and connections you make simply just by being the person that makes another human being a cup of coffee in the morning. But there's also a reason why they chose to come and get that coffee from you again and again!
Working under pressure is key, but making quality drinks and making a person feel heard and seen by you is another. That's what made me an exceptional barista and I hope this inspires you to be one too!
