Great question! I would first start by defining what type of small business do you want to own. For example, lawn care, computer repair shop, interior design etc... Figure that out first and then do your research on that particular industry to see if the market is lucrative or not. From there, I would suggest coming up with the business plan and a target audience. I've seen lots of Business Coaches for beginners and entrepreneur to help walk you through the process step by step. They will help you create a business strategy, make recommendations for learning courses for Business school as well as assist with Marketing/branding once you're ready to launch your new business. In addition to that, I would also say invest in finding a mentor who's already in that field to pick their brain and learn more from.

To obtain a good idea, you need produce a bunch of new ideas first, then you are able to select the best one from them. To produce many new ideas, the skill of creative thinking can be helpful. In terms of how to gain the ability of creative thining, I would recommand to check my books on Amazon (search name TJ Xia), you do not need to buy the books, you can read their e-version for free. The contents of the books will stimulate your mind.
