Mike’s Answer

If becoming a pastry chef is what you want to do then my advice to you is take a job a a local bakery of grocery store bakery and spend a year doing that. If after a year you still love it I suggest you go to pastry school and follow your dream!!! Good luck.

David’s Answer

Certainly, if you like doing it, it should be fun as long as you have sufficient time to complete the tasks. You may be able to start out as a baker and then eventually, take on a supervisor's or manager's position. Perhaps you will own a bakery someday!
Essentially, any job is what you make of it. With a positive attitude, you can not only enjoy what you do, but also climb the "ladder of success".

Jim’s Answer

Hi, Rosselin! My wife is a chef so I can say from watching her work that yes, cooking/baking can be fun and rewarding. The question is if you are enjoying it now and/or get satisfaction from decorating. If so, you will likely enjoy it as a profession. I think cooking and baking is more of an art, which allows you to be creative and yes, get joy from seeing people's reactions to your work. So if those things appeal to you, I'd say go for it. Try getting an after-school job at a bakery or cafe, see how you like working in that environment. I will say at times, cooking can be a high pressure deal if you're cooking/baking in a high volume establishment. Practical experience will help you determine the right direction for you. Good luck!

Susan’s Answer

I think it's great and important to pursue something you love to do . But baking for enjoyment and baking for a career are not the same thing. So I would talk to some bakery shop owners, workers and maybe even get a part time job at a bakery and see what you think. That can help you determine whether you want baking to be a full time career or something that is a stepping stone to something else.
