Teaching is a great profession. Please don’t let a few bad apples change your mind. You will be prepared to handle the situations that arise. You will also leave a lasting impact on your students. Keep doing research and connect with a few teachers to see how they handle those difficult situations. You will be just fine!
Thank you, this is amazing! I really needed it.

Don't be discouraged from going for any profession your really interested in. Teaching is a calling of the heart like the medical fields. Not easy. After hearing about the horrors of War as a child if I got discouraged about joining the Military I would have missed out on seeing, doing , experiencing things that very few ever will, many things found only in history book & seen on TV.
Thank you for taking the time to help.

Hello Niya,
It seems like you had a challenging experience. The student-teacher relationship plays a significant role in these situations. If a teacher is too strict, students might not appreciate them, leading to difficult circumstances. Dealing with teenagers can be tough, as it's essential to strike a balance between being their friend and maintaining your authority as a teacher. To gain valuable insights, consider seeking advice from an experienced educator who can guide you on how to manage them effectively.
Wishing you all the best!

Often, television and social media are filled with shocking and sensational content. However, as someone who has spent 17 years in various schools, I can assure you that working with young people involves addressing their social and emotional needs alongside academic learning. By pursuing training and education in teaching, mentoring, and coaching social-emotional skills, you can not only become better at defusing potentially aggressive situations but also guide students in learning self-regulation techniques for healthier communication.
Classroom management is a crucial aspect of teaching social-emotional skills. Exceptional teachers are able to build relationships with their students, creating an atmosphere of care and safety within the school environment. When students know that you are there for them – not as a friend, but as a supportive figure who accepts them, encourages their success, and understands their needs – they are more likely to develop the coping skills necessary for navigating both childhood and adulthood.
Don't let the negative images from TV and social media discourage you. Instead, strive to be the influential figure your students will remember fondly in their adult lives. Social Emotional Learning and Development is a good place to start in developing your skills to help students.
