Starting at a young age you want to mow lawns and wash cars. Do the dishes etc. If you can't get family to pay you 10, 20, 30 dollars for these duties you might want to look for neighbors or people in the community to get groceries for. Join a paid volunteer work experience where there will be something to document on a resume for your help. I was able to save 2,300 dollars at eighteen by doing these things and was loved for the money and consistency I had doing them.

Nicolas recommends the following next steps:

Ask if help is needed
Put a price on it
Fill out an application (research organizations)
Penny pinch

Thank you comment icon I agree with the person who commented above.. I would add dog-walking. Help people who have to move--move. Next, why not senior-sit someone who is lonely-- or unload groceries after they are delivered from the store. (As I am a late stage Parkinson's Victim, these chores would help me immensely. ) Just being a friend to someone elderly would b e William Dauer

I think that you are asking what to do to have money later in life which is a very smart question to ask. I would say spend a little time each day in learning a higher paying skill. For example if possible learn a musical instrument, you have many years to become highly skilled and wherever in the world and whenever, you can always make money teaching music to kids. Or learn multiple languages that are widely spoken, as a child you have time to become a polyglot and you learn faster, that's if you like languages, there are always well paid opportunities for translators in many industries. Look into skills that you can start learning as a child.

Here are some ideas:
Psychology/ World customs and Cultures - Just read books from the library, it's like reading stories about people.
First Aid and Resuscitation - It's useful, can work as a life guard, it's athletic and fun
Journalism and Writing - start writing about things that matter to you and your family/ friends, discuss what can make those things better, writing classes, write for local paper/ school paper etc.
Poetry/ Public Speaking / Motivation/ Mentor - Learn how to communicate well, how to listen well and how to help others, use your voice to get noticed and to make a change
Hospitality/ Etiquette - there is always room in the luxury sector for someone who can dress well, speak well, behave well and be a great host - work on yourself a little bit every day!

No doubt you will find something that you like and that it would bring you financial security in life. You are a very smart young lady, Annabelle.

I'm going to add a few things:
-Are you creative? You can make things! I remember when I was a kid, there was somebody who would draw Pokemon for other people during recess for money. You can use Etsy or Pinterest to come up with cool ideas that you can make at home and then sell online (Etsy, Facebook Marketplaces etc.), to your friends and family, or at markets (though markets may have an upfront fee to participate.

On the flipside, you've made some money, how do you keep it or spend it wisely?
-Understand what is your goal. You may or may not have things that you have to spend on (bills, gas, groceries). Understanding how much of your money you have to spend each month will give you an idea of what is left over for other things (restaurants, toys, gifts, entertainment). You will want to allocate savings of what's left over to whatever your goal is so that you don't spend too much on things that may get in the way of your goal.
