It all depends on what your definition of a 5 star chef is, My day starts at 5Am breakfast at 6 work with my cooks until 730 breakfast over. Do paper work until 10Am work with cooks to open for lunch 11am. work with cooks thru lunch 1pm, more paper work until 3pm work with cooks to open at 4pm make sure things are in good shape and go home between 5 and 6 pm. that's Monday Thru Friday regular days then add in catering and what ever time they would like yesterday i worked until 8pm. Saturday the Sunday reduced service so am off unless someone calls out then I have to go in to cover a shift. don't for get that there call outs Monday to Friday also so some times I'm cooking plus all of the rest. And then there are vacations that have to be coverewd. Thats my day I'm only a 5 star chef to the people I cook for.

Depending on the restaurant or hotel. You can expect to work 10 - 14 hours per day. If you are the head chef you have to deal with ordering food, scheduling cooks, writing menus, managing employees, going to meetings with managers, inspecting all of the food, inspecting all of the stations and the food they make, dealing with suppliers, deal with waiters, bartenders and customers. Not to mention cooking.
