How will my classes be determined in college?

I'm a junior high school student who's striving to be an accountant someday. I'd like to know the importance of a major, as well as the importance of the college you attend when taking into consideration a career in accounting.

I am looking to pursue an engineering career. Let's take electrical engineering as an example. How many years of study is required to have a job in the field? Are there any non-math or science classes one needs?
