When reviewing colleges and universities, it is best to check the following:
- In-State vs Out of State Tuition
- Internships
- Scholarships
- Career Placement upon graduation
- Course work and offered classes
- Post-Graduate Degrees - Master and Doctoral
Scholarship applications can start to be submitted during your Junior year and will continue throughout your Senior year in high school. It is best to ask your Academic Advisor/School Counselor on the timeline process as well. Scholarship applications will have specific deadlines and requirements to meet in order to be submitted for review and consideration.
You may want to start to compile your resume/portfolio since a majority of scholarship applications will require academic grade point average (GPA), academic accomplishments, school activities (clubs, sports, etc.), community involvement (volunteer, church, etc.), academic and personal recommendations, etc. There may be essay requirements on why you are a qualified candidate to receive the scholarship, what your future goals are academically and professionally and other questions centering around who you are, your beliefs, etc.
Here are a couple of links for Culinary Scholarships:

Here are a couple of links for College Scholarships:

Also, it will be best to check with the colleges and universities that you will be applying to. You can check with the School/Department of your desired major, the Campus Career Center and the Register's Office for additional information for college scholarships and grants and specific requirements for qualifications.
Hope this helps and best wishes for your education and career in Culinary and becoming a future baking shop owner and chef!

Doc’s Answer
Megan if you are looking to study at a culinary school, it is important to know the requirements in order to get into the program. There are schools that may require you to have experience in the food service industry. You will be responsible for submitting your high school transcripts, diploma/GED, and your SAT or ACT scores. You may also be required to submit an essay explaining why you aspire to be a culinary professional.
CULINARY SCHOOL COSTS
Before you consider attending a culinary school, you’re probably wondering about the cost. There’s no “one-size-fits-all” answer because there are several types of culinary programs with different associated costs. A four-year program at a prestigious culinary school will be more costly than a two-year program at a community college. Below I've listed some costs for a culinary education.
• Culinary Arts Certificate: $17,000-$47,000
• Associate of Culinary Arts: $35,000-$56,000
• Bachelor of Culinary Arts: $47,000-$120,000
CULINARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM
Those who have been to culinary school will tell you that it is very difficult. You should learn quickly, that it is a fast-paced environment, and you must keep up in order to stay on schedule. You will have to be a quick thinker, while at the same time ensuring safety. Along with physical wear and tear, you will also experience a rollercoaster of emotions. The hours on your feet, and the pressure from your instructors, will more than likely impact your mood. There are many deadlines and tests as well. During these times, it is important to remember why you are in culinary school to begin with. Reminding yourself of your passion for cooking and food should help you find your stride, and succeed.
Not everyone gets accepted to culinary school when they apply. Even though many culinary schools have high acceptance rates, there are limited spaces available. If you apply late or don't have all the requirements in hand, you might not be accepted for the program. Preparation is key, so apply early and make sure you thoroughly research the admission requirements for your chosen program.
Good luck Megan
