since I’m going for a art degree I’m a sophomore and I’m getting worried about what are good ways

Also, how do you decide on a major? Is a gap year a good decision, or can it negatively affect the first year of college?

I live in Illinois and I don’t want to move to far from my home state but I want to be far into the woods like South Carolina with good weather and everything.
