Ask a letter of reference from your old boss - 3 years no contact?
I'm going back to school after a few years of work. The school requests 2 letters of references but I haven't contacted my old employers for 3 years (I left during covid, and have been working remotely since for another company). Should I reach out to them on Linkedin and ask over there? Or should I ask them out for a coffee? I feel leaning towards option 1 as it might be more time-efficient for both? But would that request be viewed as more "cold" ? What do you think?

I've been applying for volunteer and job positions for the summers and ALL of them require references and past employers. Although I have a strong list of teachers and a few past employers, my list is pretty short. (All my positions were long term, I have more quality than quantity) I feel bad to keep asking and updating them about using them as a reference. What is considered too old for references on resumes?
Hello, I've worked several jobs throughout the years but I have a closer bond with my past supervisors from my first two jobs. Would it look suspicious if I kept those references or should I ask people from my more recent jobs? For a multitude of #scholarships, I have been asked to provide letters of #recommendation and I am at a loss for who I should ask. I am a wrestler and pole vaulter but I have little faith in my coaches ability to draw up a well-written letter that would help my case. Are you allowed to put any of your professors down as references for applying to job?
I have never actually asked any of my professors this question. To me it sure seems like a very good idea because they are the ones who see how dedicated you are, motivated, and willing you are to work. Not to mention all the effort and devotion you put into your grades. I hope that this can happen because then I will have tons of great references in my corner!
