Where to start with 3D modeling and learning the basics?
Hello again! From the responses I had on my last question, I'm finding a lot of really helpful resources on here to use! To start off, I've been interested in learning 3D modeling, but I have no idea where to even start! I have found multiple tutorials online, but the only issue I have is that I want more of a "lesson plan" that gradually moves me into more advanced projects. The courses I've seen range from over 200$, which kind of throws me off since they're super expensive for about a month's worth of projects. Also, what modeling programs should I use? I've been considering Zbrush and Maya, but I'm wondering if it's worth the cost of it as well (plus, if there's any tutorials for those that may be good). I have yet to touch Blender, however, that is also something I definitely want to get the hang of eventually. For Blender especially, I've really only found courses that are behind paywalls or don't really thoroughly explain the process (some assuming you already know what does what). Anything free or priced is alright with me! Costs are inevitable for some of these types of programs. :)
What is the best resource for portfolio building as a Game Artist?
I'm looking to build a website to show off some of my work, but I'm not sure what the best option is. There are a lot of website-building services, but most have fees. Are there any good free options or should I bite the bullet and buy something like squarespace? For context, I am a rising junior studying game art. I'm a 3d generalist, but I mainly want to show off my modeling in Zbrush.
What should I do if I want to enter the modeling industry at a young age?

What are you expected to know going into a game development related job? And do you have any resources or tips to help me learn more about coding, game dev, VFX, and anything else i’d need to know?
I’m currently in the S.T.E.M. concentration at my school and i am also on the robotics team. While being in the concentration, i have developed a passions for coding, 3D Modeling and VFX. I am not the best at it which is why i’m coming here for advice. If there’s anything i should know, need to know, or any advice you have, please let me know!
Which 3D modeling careers involve Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360, or Solidworks How do I go about looking for these jobs?
I love modeling, and have been on this career path since high school. But searching for jobs like this always brings up CAD, and that's not something I care about unfortunately. I also do not know how to use sheet metal, or make electrical plans. None of this was ever taught to me. So now I feel completely lost searching for jobs that fall within my skillset (Modeling, and making technical drawings from existing blueprints) If it helps, I recently earned my CSC (Career Studies Certificate) in computer aided drafting and design, and was hoping that would be enough to find a job.

In industrial design and video games, what are the skills that can be easily applied to both industries and the skills that are specific to each other?
I'm currently studying in industrial design at university and I enjoy getting my ideas to become a reality. I went into this program not knowing much besides that it involved drawings and model making which I love. However, during the years, our classes have had the chance to meet some professional industrial designers, but also some industrial designers that have switched to the video game industry, and this has made me curious about how they proceeded to change career paths and also if they ever had difficulties in adapting to the other industry. I am aware that there are uses of sketches and 3D renderings in both industries (such as concept artist in video games which I'm very interested in!). Video games have always interested and excited me, but I still plan to finish my studies in industrial design. What troubles me is whether I should later study in video game design or is that not necessary in order to work in that industry. #career-paths #design #video-games #3d-modeling #industrial-design #sketching
