Advice/Recs for HS Student About College Admissions?
Hi! I'm an upcoming junior in high school and I figured that this would probably be the most important year in HS when talking about college admissions. I'm a Cali resident and most of the colleges I'm applying to are in-state. I'm just worried that with the amount of pressure and expectations that UCs and CSUs have currently, that I won't be able to get in my top schools. I'm planning on majoring in Health Sciences, and I know that some of the programs are hard to get into. These are some of my stats: -I'm taking the SAT and ACT this year -4.4/4.0 GPA -11 APs, 5 Honors Classes, 8 DE classes -As far for Honors and Awards, I only have a State Champs for Color Guard Freshman Year and probably an AP Scholar Award in the future. My biggest problems are my ECs, I'm president of a Habitat for Humanity Club and planning on making a Medical Connections Club next year. Other than that, I have a volunteer hours and am active in my school. I'm just worried that all of these are average, especially considering the schools I'm applying for. I wanted to start getting in touch with hospitals for shadowing and also do a research/passion project, but I don't know where to start. Sorry if this was too long but do you guys have any advice or recommendations n what to do?
When should I take my gap year?
Hello there! I am a high school junior in August 2024 and want to take a gap year, but I intend to get a Psychology PhD. So should I take my gap year right out of high school or between my undergrad and PhD program? I just don't want it to be harder to get into a college because I didn't apply out of high school where I have a lot of support versus on my own after a gap year.
How do I narrow down a major I want to enroll in based on what majors I’m interested in?
I want to enroll in anything related to computer science/programming, graphic design, or psychology. I’m currently a 9th grader and I used to have a programming class which I enjoyed and excelled in. I’ve also had an interest in designing, specifically graphic design, for very long. Recently I’ve been growing a liking for psychology and anything related to it, as I’m fascinated by it. I don’t know how to choose between these 3 specific fields and need help on deciding one for college.

What should I do before I apply to colleges and related programs/scholarships in order to have a competitive application that stands out?
I am getting ready to go into my senior year of high school and want to make the most out of it before I apply to colleges and related programs/scholarships. I am interested in doing biochemistry and animal sciences, considering double majoring. My long term goal is to go to vet school. I already work at a vet clinic, have lots of leadership and volunteer experience, get good grades, have shadowed veterinarians, and take many science/health classes. I have also been very involved inside and outside of school in a variety of activities. Lately I’ve tried to find more opportunities related to animals. I feel like I’m in a good place for applying to colleges but is there anything I should be doing to stand out? I want to apply for competitive programs such as Purdue’s Veterinary Scholars Program.

Should I take Honors Organic Chemistry and AP Chemistry together?
I will be going into 11th grade next year, and I'm interested in going into Pre-Med. Here is my schedule for next year: Hon. Pre-Calc w/ Trig AP US History AP English 3 Hon. French IV AP Chemistry String Orchestra (Gym) I have space for 1 elective, so I was wondering if it would be better to take Organic Chemistry next year or senior year... if not, I can take Hon. Anatomy and Physiology instead. Based on how much coursework / content there will be, do you have any advice or recommendations? I am planning on doing AP Chem + Org. Chem together and AP Biology + Anatomy/Physiology together. Any thoughts? Thank you! #high-school-student #chemistry #AP #Honors #organic-chemistry #courses #sophomore
