How Can I Discover My Talents and Find a Career Path I Truly Love ?

Hello everyone, I’m currently an administrator at a company’s employment office, but I’m on a journey to discover my true passion and career path. I understand that the best career for me should align with my abilities and interests, allowing me to work with enthusiasm rather than just waiting for the day to end. Here’s some background about me: My colleagues say I’m very talkative and good at communicating with people, especially in commercial fields. Five years ago, I dreamed of becoming a bodybuilding coach, as fitness and supplements fascinated me. Back then, I could work for 12 hours without feeling tired. However, I’m not sure if I still have the same passion for it. I graduated with a degree in database technology. While I have skills in technology, I find that I’m more of a social and community-oriented person. I thrive when working with people and enjoy leadership roles. People often say I have strong leadership skills, patience, responsibility, and loyalty. They also mention that I leave a positive impact wherever I go. On the downside, I’m a deep thinker, which sometimes leads to social anxiety. I know I want to build something of my own and create a career that reflects my strengths. However, I’m struggling to identify my talents, abilities, and the right path for me. I’d love to hear advice from professionals and experts: How can I identify my true talents and abilities? How can I find a career path that aligns with my personality, interests, and skills? Thank you for taking the time to read my story and share your insights.

How do I break into a new industry?

I've been working for 20 years since I graduated from college -- 17 years at a nonprofit research institute and then the last 3 years at a large U.S. bank. My focus has been on identifying, selling/pitching, evaluating and experimenting with innovative ideas in a brought range of areas -- new research approaches, novel data science (eg, AI/ML) use cases, ways to use emerging tech to make core lines of business faster/cheaper/better, and new products & services. I left both of the last organizations when my leadership changed and there was no longer an interest in investing in more exploratory innovation (horizon 2 or 3). I see lots of companies that are investing in this type of innovation, but not many in the industries in which I have experience. How can I get the attention of recruiters and higher managers and convince them that my skillset is very transferable?

How do you talk to your boss about leveling up in your career?

I have been working for the same large company (but on a small team) for 10 years at the same role. I want to grow in my career, take on new responsibilities and move into a managerial role. I think there's a good opportunity to move within my own company and think it's probably important to talk to my boss to get his help, but I'm nervous and don't know what to say to get his support. Any insight/tips you can share on how to approach this in a professional way that doesn't make him want to fire me or think lower of me as an employee on his team would be hugely helpful. Thanks!

How often should I reach out to my Academic Advisor ?

I think it is a great idea for me to establish great communication with my Academic Advisor so I can keep on taking the necessary course for my degree. Not only that but I have been given great personal and professional advice and resources. I don't want to overstep my boundaries by asking a ton of questions all the time, but I would like to utilize as many resources, advice, and opportunities as my advisor can provide me.

Action drives us to push our limits and to grow. What are a couple things that I can take action on today to challenge myself and grow?

More of a philosophy question :) There are so many quotes about this concept "action": “Never complain, never explain, just let your actions speak for themselves.” – Benjamin Disraeli “The Superior man is modest in speech but exceeds in his actions.” – Confucius “There are no statues built to those who lived lives of mediocrity, and on the tomb of NO heroes will you find the words, he played it safe” – John Romaniello “Fortune sides with him who dares.” – Virgil “No man is more unhappy that he who never faces adversity. For he is not permitted to prove himself.” – Seneca There is something special behind it, and because I lack experience at 19-years-old, I wanted to ask you all what you have done in your life to challenge yourself through action? #business #leadership #philosophy #books #personal-development #growth
